Hacksaw Ridge

From actor and director Mel Gibson, who did “Braveheart” and “The Passion of Christ”, came his next masterpiece, as a director. This masterpiece he did, was nominated for many Academy Awards including Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Director, and Best Cinematography. However, this won only two Oscar awards. For Best Film Editing and Best Sound Mixing.

In this comes a grand cast. Andrew Garfield, Vince Vaughn, Sam Worthington, and Hugo Weaving. And this had become, “The Best War Film Since Saving Private Ryan” by the New York Observer.

Andrew Garfield, nominated for Best Actor, portrays as Desmond Doss. An American WWII combat medic who was a Seventh-day Adventist Christian, refusing to carry a single firearm or weapon at any kind. He was the very first conscientious objector, as he went into the bloodiest battle in WWII. In the Pacific against Japan. The Battle of Okinawa, Japan, as it was the very big one. Many men were killed, as it went on for two days. Desmond never fired a rifle or any weapon at all. Ever when he was there. And after a full retreat, Desmond stayed behind. And heard the voices of many men, wounded in battle.

So by day, and throughout the entire night, he was able to save 75 of his comrades in Hacksaw Ridge. By taking ever member to the rope ladder, he was able to pull them down and get more. Until by morning, every soldier was shocked to see this. They were pleased of him, as they were able to take on Hacksaw Ridge one more time. Until finally, the Battle of Okinawa was won, as Desmond Doss was glad to be a believer in a God.

After the war in Japan ended, when U.S. President Harry S. Truman heard about this, he was very pleased on Desmond. President Truman believes in God too, as well as him. Which was why Desmond Doss, was awarded the Medal of Honor by U.S. President Harry S. Truman after that. Every war veteran thanked him very much, including the ones that were with him in that battle.

Desmond was married to a nurse named Dorothy, as they remained together until Dorothy’s death in 1991. Desmond also, was seen in a interview once in 2003. Until 3 years later, he died on March 23rd, 2006 at age 87.

We all believe in God, and we know one of his commandments, that he follows. “Thou shall not kill”. That is a good thing. Which is why I’m very pleased in this, for what Mel Gibson did. This has become the best war movie to me, since “Saving Private Ryan“. But it sure was too bad, this nearly won that Oscar award for Best Picture, as well as the rest in the Academy Awards. But as I am proud for what they did, to make this Academy Award nominated movie to be the greatest, and won those two Oscar awards, I’m giving this 9/10 stars. A straight ‘A’ on this masterpiece.

In fact, for what Andrew Garfield did in that movie, by saving those comrades was amazing. At Hacksaw Ridge, in Okinawa, Japan, before Hattori Hanzo portrayed by Sonny Chiba in “Kill Bill” was born, spectacular.

9/10 stars on this masterpiece. A straight ‘A’ that I am very pleased.
