Frankie and Johnny (1966)

After reviewing “Fight Club”, “Master & Commander: Far Side of the World”, “12 Monkeys”, “The Little Things”, “Water-world”, “Noah”, “Firestarter”, “Be Kind Rewind” & “Bull Durham”, those were thumbs down indeed.

“Dog Day Afternoon” was too long for a heist movie, as Al Pacino couldn’t know what do. Same thing to “Airheads” with Brendan Fraser, Steve Buscemi, Adam Sandler, Chris Farley, Ernie Hudson, and Mike Judge who did ‘Beavis & Butthead’ as a cameo.

“The Suicide Squad” directed by James Gunn was intense, but had a lot of course language, violence, and too much CGI as well as special effects. Not recommended for kids.

But this one was a thumbs up indeed. My grandma Gayle really enjoyed this, from my dad’s side. In fact, this should’ve won the Academy Awards for Best Costume Design, Best Hairstyling & Makeup, and Best Art Direction. To those that are fans of rock and roll legend Elvis Presley, this is what I’m talking about. This definitely beats Hilary Duff in “A Cinderella Story” and Lindsay Lohan in “Just My Luck”.

This may have a few elements from “Just My Luck” when it comes on good luck/bad luck, but I’d say, stay on the good luck side. Even when you’re gambling. And like that Cinderella story, Elvis just wanted the right girl.

Joining Elvis Presley are Donna Douglas, Nancy Kovack, Anthony Eisley, Robert Strauss and Harry Morgan before he was in “M*A*S*H”.

Set on the Mississippi River on an old fashioned riverboat, the riverboat that they were in was also a casino. And Elvis’s character, has always been lucky. Especially when he is winning cash in gambling. While he was at a stopover, he met a gypsy as he would meet a red haired lady. In addition, it did came true, as the rest of the showgirls became jealous. So there was a love triangle that became a big pickle since William Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”. And Mark Twain’s “The Prince and the Pauper” when there were a tiny few elements.

They travelled all the way to New Orleans in time for Mardi Gras. And two of Elvis’s buddies in this are hilarious. No chick fights, but the way those girls are dressed up and singing, one or two of them is a ‘Miss Kitty’ since “An American Tail: Fievel Goes West”. Later on, they just became jealous of each other, as only one can choose Elvis at the end.

It’s IYF on Hilary Duff, Jennifer Coolidge and Lindsay Lohan from those two movies I have mentioned. This musical takes the kick.

So for a success, a straight ‘A’ is a what I give on this. Almost 10/10 stars. So this one is a 9.9 out of 10.

In conclusion, since I didn’t liked “Bull Durham” with Kevin Costner, I do wish to ask my dad to sell that DVD copy of that on Kijiji, if that’s okay with him. Or do a swap/trade for a different Kevin Costner movie on DVD.
