Wallace and Gromit: A Grand Day Out (1989)

Nominated for the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film, this was how I began to love Wallace and Gromit. My brothers and I were infants when we saw this movie on VHS. Thanks to stop motion animation director Nick Park.

A cheese loving inventor named Wallace and his doggy companion named Gromit were planning on where to travel. By having themselves tea and crackers with cheese as a snack, they found out that they were out of cheese. So instead of going someplace where there is cheese, they went to one place that is ‘out of this world’. And they say that place is made out of cheese.

The same place where Princess Kaguya was, before being sent to Japan on Earth, and then back home again. Centuries later, the Apollo 11 landing. THE MOON.

After building an orange rocket ship, and a flight all the way to the moon, the cheese that they had on the moon was tremendous. Wallace loved it, but Gromit wasn’t so sure. There was air on the surface of the Moon btw; but as of today since the Apollo 11 moon landing, no air. And without oxygen, you’d drop dead in seconds.

During their stay, they found a coin operated robot who wanted to return to Earth, and give it a shot in skiing. It did steal bits of their stuff, as how it damaged their rocket, but it did found the things that thing need as it decided to stay on the moon, and do skiing itself.

So for a success, 9.5 out of 10 stars is what I give.
